Six persons have been feared dead and several others injured after a tanker loaded with illegally refined product exploded at Ete o community in Eleme local government area.
The Executive director of Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, in an interview said the incident occurred Sunday when some members of the community tried scooping product from the two tankers destroyed by men of the anti-bunkering unit.
Fyneface Dumnamene alleged that two tankers allegedly loaded with illegally refined product were set ablaze because the drivers refused to settle the security operatives
Mr. Fyneface Dumnamene advised security operatives to device other means in destroying illegally refined product to help reduce soot in Port Harcourt
Meanwhile, the river state police command has confirmed the incident but said only two persons died.
The command public relations officer, grace koko told our correspondent in a telephone interview that a fire ignited from the destroyed tankers when scavengers tried to cut off part of the tankers.
