Properties worth millions Gutted by Fire in Port Harcourt

Properties worth millions of naira were yesterday night gutted by fire at Ojoto Market in Mile 2 Diobu axis of Port Harcourt

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as the market had already shut down for the day.

The chairman of the market, Arinze Akupue, speaking of the incident, said he was in his house when he got a call from the security personnel at about 10pm that the market was on fire. He said three of his shops were affected.

Reacting to the Incident, Deputy Superintendent and Head of Operations of the Federal Fire Service in Rivers State, Abbas Reagan, said his men responded to the distress call from traders at the Ojoto Market.

Mr Reagan, speaking with our correspondent said his men had to run from attackers for the sake of their lives.

The chairman of the market, Arinze Akupue, condemned the attacks on the personnel of the Federal Fire Service by hoodlums who he said wanted to take advantage of the situation to loot. Mr Akupue said it took the intervention of police officers from the Azikiwe Police Division to rescue the personnel of the fire service
